The Building People welcomes David Cottingham as new Real Estate Portfolio Analyst

DAVID Cottingham picThe Building People is excited to announce the addition of David Cottingham as a Real Estate Portfolio Analyst. David is a graduate of Indiana State University, where he received a BS in Human Resource Development and is currently a candidate for a Masters in Real Estate at Georgetown University with a focus in real estate finance.

After receiving his Bachelor’s degree, David launched his career in real estate as an Escrow Specialist in Northern Virginia and was quickly promoted to Senior Escrow Specialist. In 2007, he built on his real estate experience by learning appraisals and was promoted to Real Estate Appraiser of a large metropolitan jurisdiction where he earned his Certified General Appraiser license in 2015. As an appraiser David specialized in complex residential properties and commercial real estate, working on property types like power plants, sewer and water treatment plants, natural gas pipelines, communication towers, offices, shopping centers and malls located.

The House of Representatives unanimously approved two bipartisan bills today to shrink the federal footprint, improve the federal government’s management of its real estate portfolio, and to streamline the disposal of excess or underutilized federal buildings to save taxpayers billions of dollars.

For the past several years,  government agencies have reduced the size of the federal real property footprint, implemented sustainability programs, and increased utilization of their space to be more efficient. Campaigns champion property disposal, energy reduction, fewer leases, and tenant transfers into owned space. Driven by the public sector’s commitment to sustainability, these efforts hold out the hope of reducing costs across the portfolio. Yet operating costs have outpaced the industry. Why? It’s a complicated question given the size of the portfolio, but it is one that must be analyzed if facility management professionals are going to offer strategic solutions.
