Meet Alice Allred, a Procurement Specialist at The Building People! She is a key member of our Mission Support Team.
Here is more from Alice about her background and role at TBP:
What is your professional background?
In the last ten years, I have worked for the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office as the Comptroller and the National Center for State Courts as a Program Specialist (grant management).
What is your role at TBP?
Can you tell us about the work you do at TBP?
I am part of the GDO 10 (Grid Deployment Office) team for the Department of Energy. At this time, I review the application budgets and supporting documents for the 247 Incentive Program.
What is a fun fact about you people might not know?
I am a little bit of a Star Wars nerd. I attended the GalaxyCon in Richmond in March and got to meet the actor who portrayed Emperor Palpatine. Recently, I went to Tidewater Con and met Ray Park, who portrays Darth Maul.
What do you like most about working in your role?
I like knowing that we are promoting hydroelectric energy improvements.
How do you define success?
Success is having a healthy balance between work and family.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would love to learn to speak Tagalog. My family is from the Philippines. My parents stopped teaching us their native language when I was in kindergarten so we could assimilate.
Do you have a favorite quote that resonates with you?
“May the force be with you.”
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Put your own oxygen mask first. You can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself.
What is the accomplishment you are the proudest of to date?
My son who had an IEP and ADHD graduated high school with honors. I am a single parent. He is the younger of my two children. His sister and I ugly-cried when he got his diploma.
