Meet Steven Hazen, a Senior Engineer at The Building People! He is a key member of our Project Management and Engineering Team.
Here is more from Steven about his background and role at TBP:
What is your professional background?
I started as a field service technician with Liebert, maintaining high-voltage battery backup systems in critical facilities. I was then a data center engineer for US Bank, Oracle, and USDA, supporting the critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
What is your role at TBP?
Senior Engineer, supporting National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service.
Can you tell us about the work you do at TBP?
I manage the HVAC systems for 38 weather forecast offices and their associated radar sites in the 14-state NWS central region. This entails managing new geothermal system installations, coordinating maintenance and repairs, and managing the building automation systems across the region.
What is a fun fact about you people might not know?
I’m an avid golfer. I introduced the game to my 3 sons and quickly became the 3rd best golfer in my household, soon to be 4th.
What do you like most about working in your role?
The critical nature of the work. Ensuring the radars and weather forecast offices remain operational carries weight in the decisions that must be made.
How do you define success?
Playing 18 holes with the same ball.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Base jump in a wingsuit, or fly a plane.
Do you have a favorite quote that resonates with you?
“Experience is something you don’t get until just after you need it.”
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Make the first time you do something the last time anyone has to.
What is the accomplishment you are proudest of to date?
Building the house that we currently live in. It was a mental and physical grind while working full time, but worth it.
