Meet Tyler Synan, a Construction Cost Estimator and Planner at The Building People! He is a key member of our Real Estate and Workplace Team.
Here is more from Tyler about his background and role at TBP:
What is your professional background?
I am a former corporate security manager who has found a new career in construction cost estimating and planning.
What is your role at TBP?
Can you tell us about the work you do at TBP?
After reviewing documents provided by the client, I provide construction cost and planning estimates as well as value engineering and alternative plans back to the client for review. These estimates can be used to determine budgets, acquire funding and justify expenditure.
What is a fun fact about you people might not know?
I enjoy photography, riding my motorcycle and occasionally drawing.
What do you like most about working in your role?
Every estimate is like a mystery to solve. Some are more challenging than others, but finishing each one feels rewarding.
How do you define success?
I believe success is unique to every individual, and for me it’s feeling confident that the job I’m doing is valued and truly needed. I look forward to completing projects knowing I had a hand in something that will be appreciated long after I’m gone.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I think at some point I’d like to earn a pilot’s license.
Do you have a favorite quote that resonates with you?
“There’s no way to describe what I do. It’s just me.” – Andy Kaufman
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
I was told once that you just can’t plan for everything, and that’s why it’s good to remain flexible and leave room in your plans for the unknown. Very straight forward, but I try to incorporate this logic in everything I do.
What is the accomplishment you are the proudest of to date?
I think having a successful career in my 20s and then starting over with a completely new career path later in life is a massive accomplishment for someone like me.
