Employee Q&A: Zoe Madsen

Meet Zoe Madsen, a Technical Writer at The Building People! She is a key member of our Smart Buildings Team.

Here is more from Zoe about her background and role at TBP:

What is your professional background?

I attended Lehigh University, where I studied Earth and Environmental Sciences and Environmental Engineering. My previous role was at an environmental consulting firm. I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in the real estate, litigation, and insurance sectors. I spent a great deal of time on site remediation projects, where I worked both in the field and in the office.

What is your role at TBP?

I work as a Technical Writer on the Smart Buildings Team.

Can you tell us about the work you do at TBP?

A typical day for me is spent writing, proofreading, and copy-editing reports. I get to pair my passion for language with my educational background. It really is the best.

What is a fun fact about you people might not know?

I used to be a chemistry major.

What do you like most about working in your role?

I enjoy how meticulous technical writing and editing is. I also work with great people!

How do you define success?

I define success as leaving something better off than how you found it.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I would learn how to play the cello.

Do you have a favorite quote that resonates with you?

“Don’t let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway.” – Earl Nightingale

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

I once heard “while it might not happen on your time, it will be on time”. I think about this when I need a reminder that what is meant for me will come to me when the timing is right. I believe patience and optimism will lead you to the right place.

What is the accomplishment you are the proudest of to date?

I am proud of myself for switching careers. It can be intimidating to leave your first job, especially as someone who is not a huge risk-taker. I know what my passions are, and I made a commitment to myself to find the right role for me, despite the fear surrounding a career transition. I am grateful to have landed here at TBP!
