Federal Real Estate Leader Steve Stanberry Joins The Building People

Former General Services Administration leader brings deep experience in federal leasing, complex project delivery, and customer relationship management.

Leesburg, Va. | September 9, 2026 –  The Building People has welcomed Steve Stanberry as Technical Director of Occupier Services, bringing more than three decades of federal real estate, leasing, project management, and contracting experience to the company. Stanberry’s deep understanding of the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Public Buildings Service (PBS), combined with his experience leading high-profile projects and building trusted customer relationships, will strengthen The Building People’s ability to deliver consistent, responsive support across its federal real estate programs.

Stanberry spent more than 36 years with the GSA’s Public Buildings Service, building a career around solving complex real estate challenges and helping federal customers move projects from early planning through successful delivery. His experience spans both the strategic and operational sides of real estate, giving him a strong understanding of how acquisition decisions, project execution, stakeholder coordination, and long-term facility needs come together. Throughout his career, he was frequently trusted with high-risk and high-visibility work requiring strong judgment, collaboration, and disciplined execution.

Stanberry’s career includes leadership of major office, laboratory, manufacturing, and specialized facility projects for organizations including the Department of Energy, Department of Agriculture, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of Transportation. His work has included the National Security Campus in Kansas City, federal field office programs, laboratory relocations, office consolidations, and complex lease acquisitions. Across these efforts, he has been recognized for his ability to anticipate risk, resolve issues early, align stakeholders, and maintain momentum through challenging project environments.

As Technical Director of Occupier Services, Stanberry will apply that experience to support strong contract performance, effective coordination across teams and stakeholders, and consistent service delivery across multiple leasing and real estate activities. His background working directly with federal customers throughout the project lifecycle brings valuable perspective to The Building People’s continued support of complex real estate programs.

Stanberry holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Kansas State University, along with graduate certificates in Conflict Resolution and Negotiation from the University of Notre Dame and Federal Public Buildings from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He also holds professional credentials in commercial real estate and facilities management.
