Leesburg, VA, March 25, 2020 – The Building People LLC. has announced that President and CEO, Lawrence Melton was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Energy Huntsville Initiative, an Alabama-based program that is striving to make Huntsville an energy-smart city.

The Building People became involved with the Energy Huntsville Initiative in 2019 as a Platinum Sponsor to support companies in the city to work towards a collaborative energy efficient future. Chairman of the Energy Huntsville Initiative, Jay Newkirk said:

“We are excited to have Lawrence Melton join our Energy Huntsville’s Board of Directors. Lawrence and The Building People will bring important insight into Energy Huntsville’s contribution to solving the energy optimization challenges we face nationwide. Having Lawrence on our newly expanded Board of Directors is important given his personal in-depth knowledge of facilities and organizational energy efficiency challenges.”

The Initiative was created by Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle in 2011 to support the Aerospace Technology Base and diversify their offerings into the growing Energy Market Sector that would help attract new technology companies to the region.  Since its establishment, more than 200 organizations have become involved in the non-profit initiative.

According to the initiative’s website, Energy Huntsville, “…is diversifying the region’s economy, workforce and business environment to include energy applications and innovations by linking the commercial and government contracting strengths of the greater Huntsville region with key customer requirements, market forces and national policy directives for advanced energy systems and applications.”

Lawrence Melton, President and CEO at The Building People said, “It is an honor to be a part of the Energy Huntsville effort as we enrich the way businesses and government collaborate to develop strategies for energy security, sustainability, and efficiency.” He also said, “Together our efforts help to develop job growth and economic stimulus while supporting sustainable strategies that will shape a positive energy future in the Huntsville region.”
