For those of you who could not join us at the RICS Summit of the Americas in Toronto, we are pleased to report it was a tremendous success. We had the opportunity to sit on a couple of very strong panels surrounded by some of the facility industry’s sharpest talent (see below). We will post clips from the event shortly…so stay tuned.

Panels:

Raising the Bar – Pier 4

Building on the 2014 RICS global research on the Strategic Role of Facilities Management to Business (delivered by The Occupiers’ Journal), this session will test out best practices and case studies of how facilities management works with other business functions. Participants will hear from a lively cross-disciplinary panel on what it means for the FM function to be truly strategic, and how to elevate its organizational voice and influence.

Moderator: Scott McMillan, FRICS, Division Chief – Facilities, The International Monetary Fund

Panelists: Larry Melton, President, The Building People; Jim Reidy, Senior Managing Director, Studley; Peter Miscovich, Managing Director, Strategy & Innovation, JLL, Adam Stoltz, Regional Leader, Consulting, HOK

 Workplace Efficiencies – Pier 5

Thinking about how people work best while minimizing real estate overheads has accelerated significantly in the past few years. Technology, culture and diversifying work patterns are continuing to shape real estate requirements. The 2008 financial crisis, the US sequester and political directives have driven government and commercial occupiers to re-examine their asset optimization. Panelists will discuss models and practices adopted in key markets, both from the perspective of the strategic real estate asset adviser and the occupier.

Moderator: Jim Reidy, Senior Managing Director, Studley

Panelists: Joe Eichenseer, Building Solutions Division Manager, North America, RAND Worldwide; Larry Melton, President, The Building People; Maggie Allan, Director, Realty Division, Ministry of Infrastructure; Judy Rozal, Head of GFM -Canada/Global Facility Management Americas, SAP Canada
