Employee Q&A: Shiori Naito

Meet Shiori Naito, Associate Recruiter at The Building People! She is a key member of our Human Resources Team. Shiori has over 3 years experience in human resources and recruiting. She has been with The Building People for 2 years.

Here’s more from Shiori about her background and role at TBP:

What is your professional background?

I have been in the recruiting world since graduating college. Being a COVID graduate, I was very much stressed about where I could look for work. Thankfully my manager Suzanne, who I knew before joining TBP, suggested I apply to staffing agencies. Staffing was a great intro for me to learn recruiting basics, all the tips and tricks, and how to recruit for different industries. I immediately became passionate about recruiting and still am!

What is your current role at TBP?

I am one of the four recruiters at TBP.

Can you tell us about the work you do at TBP?

I help find people that make buildings happy! I recruit for the Mission Support Services, Smart Buildings, Real Estate and Workplace, and Project Management and Engineering business lines. Each day is different, with sourcing for different positions, conducting phone screens, coordinating interviews, checking new applicant resumes, getting offers out, and working on the Employee Referral Program.

What is a fun fact about you that people may not know?

From Kindergarten through high school, I went to Japan every summer to attend school there. The schools my mom went to growing up took me in and it was something I looked forward to every year. I will forever be grateful I got an opportunity to do that and cherish the friends and memories I made there. I can’t wait to go back.

What do you like most about working in your role?

I like being the bridge between talent and opportunity and bringing in people that positively affect the business lines I support. I love connecting a candidate to an opportunity that they’re excited about that also aligns with their skills, aspirations, and values. This role allows me to constantly connect with many individuals, and seeing their success at TBP is incredibly fulfilling.

How do you define success?

I define success as continual growth.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the drums.

What is a favorite quote that resonates with you?

“We cannot become what we want by remaining what we are.”

-Max de Pree

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

My dad always told me, “Don’t get too comfortable”.

What is the accomplishment you are the proudest of to date?

After living in Texas for all my life, I packed up everything I own and moved to Virginia 2 years ago. There are a lot more opportunities here especially for recruiting. I knew it was something I needed to do if I wanted to grow. I’ve grown so much personally and professionally since moving here, and TBP is a big part of that!
